We took a trip to D.C. during the 150th anniversary of the Smithsonian Institute. Here Kathy poses in front of one of the museums. In the Natural History museum you can find this pachyderm . The Father of our country, George Washington sits in the American History Museum. If you ever go to D.C. make sure you stop by the Holocaust Memorial Museum. This is the best view of theJefferson Memorial . The picture was taken from the Interstate when we were going back to the hotel. Although I must have taken a million or so pictures of the Washington Monument, I only posted this one. Here is the Pentagon also taken from the car going 60+ MPH on the Interstate. Unfortunately the Treasury Department was not passing out any samples when we were there.
A little closer to home is the Mariners Museum. Here is a calliope that was recovered from a shipwreck. A bit north of Newport News is Williamsburg. This is the old National Capital . Over at Buckroe beach is a playground with a lighthouse shaped slide. Our favorite pasttime was playing NTN trivia at Cheddars Restaurant. Also close by is the S.P.C.A. with a petting zoo out back. Here is a little deer from the petting zoo. Oh yeah, this is when Kathy and Jody took me to Chi-Chi's Mexican Restaurant for me birthday.
All of our road trips were very affordable as we did not dine in fancy restaurants or stay in posh resorts. One of my favorite trips was to Charlottesville. Our main goal of the trip was to see Kathy's son Christopher in one of his American Revolution re-enactments. Here is a picture of Christopher's campsite. Kathy even bought a fife on that trip. We also found several wineries. Here is a cask of a lovely 1994 Cabernet that we tasted. While we were driving to one of the vineyards, we heard the sound of water trickling. We stopped and peeked our heads out to see this beautiful little stream .
I will be updating this page when I get some more of our adventure pictures scanned and also when Kathy sends me some more pictures. Believe me, between the two of us, we have taken hundreds of pictures.
